Whilst private broadcasters and production companies are struggling with mounting economic pressure and a decline in work, public service broadcasters are coming under increasing pressure to justify their existence politically. At the same time, programmes are demonstrating a high level of creative quality, particularly in documentaries and documentary series, which explore socially relevant topics ā topics that were previously hardly suitable for television ā in greater depth. Overall, the general mood within the industry is thus changing noticeably ā shaped by economic uncertainty and socio-political upheavals, but also by the aspiration to provide guidance through bold and relevant content, particularly in these times.
