Event details
Would you like to combine theory, practice and research in earthen construction this summer, whilst playing an active role in a research project? If so, we warmly invite you to the GOLEHM Summer Academy 2026!
As part of our GOLEHM research project, you’ll take part in a summer academy focusing on earthen construction. You’ll gain theoretical insight and work hands-on with clay in various formats. In doing so, you’ll become part of the research team and actively share the knowledge you’ve gained with the wider public.
After covering the fundamentals during the summer term in the ‘Construction Practice’ module, the programme kicks off with an introductory week in Potsdam (27–31 July 2026), during which we’ll work together to develop the theoretical and practical foundations of earthen construction. We’ll also develop workshop formats and learn interview techniques for acceptance research. This will be followed by the Summer Academy in Weißenfels (7–18 September 2026). There, you’ll work in an interdisciplinary team at various learning and activity venues:
- A vacant shop premises will become our central seminar, workshop and exhibition space.
- At the training building site, you will learn basic earth construction and renovation techniques.
- In the market square, you’ll engage directly with the local community through playful interventions.
Alongside this, as part of the research team, you will investigate the perception and acceptance of earthen construction within society. Through workshops, interventions and surveys, you will analyse how knowledge is conveyed and how attitudes towards earth as a building material are changing.
You can also find all the key information on the programme dates, eligibility criteria, costs, accreditation, registration and contact details in the factsheet!
