Project

One University – One Book

How can we get children and adults excited about important issues for the future? Experimenting in the park

Since 2023, we have been working successfully with Wilhelm-Ostwald-Park Großbothen as part of the ‘Experimenting in the Park’ programme. This educational project introduces children to the natural sciences in a playful way and invites them to explore the world through their own experimentation, wonder and discovery.

Once a year, the park is transformed into a huge open-air laboratory with numerous experiment and hands-on stations. Together with educational establishments, research partners and cultural institutions, the Children’s University organises its own lectures and interactive activities for pre-school and primary school children. Whether it’s climate protection, wild bees, forensics or other exciting topics – here, science becomes understandable, tangible and, above all, something to be experienced.

The special atmosphere of the historic park provides the ideal setting for sparking curiosity and inspiring children’s enthusiasm for the natural sciences. Together, we aim to foster a love of research and show young explorers just how exciting science can be.

Have you outgrown the children’s university and want to know what a proper degree course is like? Then the SpeedBachelor at Mittweida University of Applied Sciences is just the thing for you!

The programme is aimed at school pupils from Year 9 onwards and offers an authentic insight into everyday university life in just two days. From the enrolment ceremony through to lectures, seminars and work placements, right up to the ceremonial presentation of the SpeedBachelor certificate, participants experience university life first-hand. In the process, they get to know various subject areas – from engineering and natural sciences to communication, sustainability and society.

As well as exciting academic sessions, the programme includes visits to the canteen, discussions with students and lecturers, and the chance to get to know campus life. The aim is to support young people in their choice of degree course and career path and to show them the wide range of opportunities available when studying at Mittweida University of Applied Sciences. Many participants report afterwards that they have gained a much clearer idea of their future career path.
