Reflect and earn credit points

Choose one of the seven events and write a term paper on it.

First, summarise the key content of the module briefly and in a structured manner. Then select one aspect from this, examine it critically and reflect on the significance of this aspect for your own life experience.

All formal and content-related requirements, as well as guidance on academic writing, can be found in the accompanying OPAL course. You will receive the password by email once you have completed course registration.

IMPORTANT: You must enrol for one of the topics!

To submit your examination work, you must first follow these two steps:

Step 1: Select your topic in OPAL

Please select your topic in the OPAL course between 10 June 2026 at 12:00 and 10 July 2026 at 12:00, and enrol for it. Increase your chances of getting your preferred topic by registering as soon as possible! There are only a limited number of places available for each topic.

Step 2: Register for the examination on the intranet 

Please register for and deregister from the exam yourself via the Mittweida University of Applied Sciences intranet between 25 June 2026 and 23 July 2026. You can only receive a mark if you are registered for the exam. Please also note that registering for the examination obliges you to sit it!

When preparing your thesis, please use only the IKKS Word or LaTeX template (available in the downloads section).

Convert your dissertation to PDF format and upload it to OPAL by midnight on 30 July 2026 at the latest. Important: You will only be able to upload your dissertation once you have registered for a topic!

When naming your file, please use the following code: Surname-First name_Seminar group (e.g. Muster-Meike_IF23w1-B)

If you miss the submission deadline, the examination attempt will be deemed a fail and reported to the Examinations Office with a mark of 5.0!

If you are unwell, you must submit a ‘medical certificate confirming inability to sit the exam’ to the Student Affairs Department (Studierendenservice) within 5 days (by email or post) – the template for this can be found here. A ‘standard sick note’ is not sufficient!

An information session will take place via Teams on 16 March 26 at 5.30 pm, during which we will be happy to answer any questions you may have about the process and the assessment.

• Your questions: Anything you’d like to know about the content, resources, procedure and organisation.

Attendance at the ‘Controversial Dialogue (Dialog Kontrovers)’ series of events counts towards the General Studies (Studium Generale) / Key Competences module.

For Social Work students, this may be recognised as ‘Current Discourses’. BW
students must obtain permission from their Dean of Studies for this to be recognised as ‘Value-Oriented Action’ within the Social Skills module.
