International Week 2024

Mittweida University of Applied Sciences and EURECA-PRO welcome students, administrators and academics from HSMW partner universities and their collaborators and internationalisation champions as well as everyone interested in integrating internationalisation in teaching, research and third mission activities to its 2024 International Week “Internationalisation for Sustainability”, which will be presented in collaboration with EURECA-PRO.

About the International Week 2024 in Mittweida

Join us in exploring the topic of "Internationalization for Sustainability" in innovative sessions, including panel discussions followed by fishbowl sessions, world cafés and workshops. You are encouraged to actively contribute to the program. During the event, there will be numerous opportunities to make new contacts in a wide range of activities:

  • World Café on innovation in internationalisation;
  • Interactive discovery of the university town Mittweida;
  • Anniversary celebration University Preparatory College;
  • Keynote and engagement on Research Internationalisation;
  • Movie night;
  • CF Music Clash;
  • Day trip to the historic city of Leipzig.

Key Objectives:

  • Exploring the link between internationalisation and sustainability;
  • Fostering innovation in internationalisation
  • Strengthening partnerships, and fostering new strategic collaborations;
  • Engaging on specific aspects of internationalisation, including mobility with children and double degree programmes;
  • Unpacking the impact of European University Alliances on internationalisation;
  • Providing a platform to exhange ideas, share experiences and network professionally;
  • Connecting researchers.

    Facilitated by Global Communication in Business and Culture students coordinated by Prof. Dr. Ramona Kusche and Kristin Ziegner-Llewellin.

  • World Café: Innovation in Internationalisation:
    At every table, colleagues from HSMW will present innovations in the university’s internationalisation process.

13:00–14:00: Lunch Break and Networking

14:00–14:45:

  • Keynote: Internationalising Research and Research on Internationalisation
    Prof Lynette Jacobs, Research Professor and Acting Director Office for International Affairs, University of the Free State.

15:15–16:30:

  • Research Speed Dating and Select Research Presentations:
    We will offer researchers and internationalisation administrators an opportunity to explore opportunities for interdisciplinary research collaboration.

  • International Night
    Students from our university’s Media Faculty share their experiences of study abroad.

  • Welcome of Rochester Institute of Technology Study Abroad:
    The Rector of Mittweida University of Applied Sciences and the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering will welcome the Study Abroad Programme from the Rochester Institute of Technology.

11:00–11:30: Coffee Break and Networking

11:30–12:30:

  • Working through a European University Alliance towards RCP: Collaborators' Experiences: Stakeholders in the EURECA-PRO university alliance will share their experience.

12:30–13:30: Lunch Break and Networking

13:30–15:15: Faculty Sessions:

  • Internationalisation with Children:
    This session, which will be hosted by our Faculty of Social Work, will explore how parents with children can benefit from internationalisation and international mobility.
  • Double Degree Programmes:
    The Faculty of Industrial Engineering hosts a session which will unpack the implementation of double degree students.
  • Intercultural reflection enabled by Sheperd students:
    During the International Week, a study abroad programme from the Sheperd University in the United States will visit the HSMW. Facilitated by Jill Deschner-Warner from the Media Faculty, the students will lead an intercultural reflection.

15:15–15:30: Coffee Break

  • City Tour:
    Explore our historical university town Mittweida and learn about German traditions. This interactive city tour will be facilitated by Global Communication in Business and Culture Students coordinated by Prof. Dr. Ramona Kusche and Kristin Ziegner-Llewellin.

19:00–20:30:

  • Movie Night: Der Mann, der nie im All war (The Man Who Never Went to Space):
    Documentary about the local space expert Tasillo Römisch, who has assembled the world’s largest private space exhibition with over 100 000 exhibits in the basement of his house in Mittweida. The protagonist will be joining us after the screening of the movie to engage with the audience.

10:00–13:00:

  • Workshop: Developing synergies between a university’s bilateral partnerships, long-standing networks and its membership in a European University Alliance:
    The HSMW is part of the European University for Responsible Consumption and Production EURECA-PRO. In this session, we will explore how synergies for sustainable internationalisation can be developed by connecting the long-standing partnerships and networks of the university with its evolving engagement in a European university alliance.

13:00–14:00: Lunch Break and Networking

14:00–15:30:

  • Panel Discussion, followed by Fishbowl: Internationalisation and Sustainability:
    Integrating environmental sustainability principles in the internationalisation process has become a high priority. In this panel discussion, we will explore how internationalisation can be structured sustainably while maximising its impact. We will invite the audience to join the discussion.

15:30–16:00: Coffee Break

16:00–16:30:

  • Ceremony to Commemorate the 15th Anniversary of the HSMW Preparatory College:
    The HSMW Preperatory College enables the smooth transition of students from national school sytems which do not offer high school certificates recognised as university entry qualifications in Germany to HSMW degree programmes. In the ceremony, we will celebrate 15 years of excellence in preparing foreign high school students for university studies in Germany. 

18:30–open End:

  • Farewell Function: CF Music Clash:
    The CF Music Clash is a musical quiz show directly from Mittweida, which is organized by the media students of the HSMW. Participants test how well they know their favorite music, genres and artists.

Friday, 17 May 2024

  • Cultural visit of Leipzig:
    The HSMW international office will facilitate a cultural visit to Leipzig. The tour will include a visit to the Monument for the Battle of the Nations, a guided tour of the historic city center. Besides, sufficient time will be available to experience inner city shopping in the Leipzig’s cosmopolitan city center.

Are you planning to take part in Mittweida University's International Week from May 13 to 17, 2024? Then register directly via our registration form for the international Week! Here you can also request a letter of invitation if you need it for your visa application. All other inquiries about the event should and proposals should be directed to us via e-mail (hagenmei@hs-mittweida.de).

REGISTRATIONS CLOSE ON 30 APRIL 2024!

Participants will be asked to finance their own travel, accommodation and expenses through the Erasmus programme. We will reserve several rooms for participants at selected hotels. There are no participation fees for the International Week.
