ArbeiterKind.de

The non-profit initiative arbeiterkind.de at the Mittweida University of Applied Sciences

The social background must not determine a person's educational path. The vision of ArbeiterKind.de is that in Germany every child from a non-academic family with a suitable qualification has the chance of an educational advancement. Around 6,000 volunteers work in 75 local groups across Germany and support schoolchildren with their own study experience.

In Germany, social origin still decides whether a child will study. According to the current 20th social survey by the German Student Union (DSW), 77 out of 100 children from academic families are studying, and only 23 out of 100 children from families without studied parents. The volunteers from ArbeiterKind.de want to change something about this statistic and are campaigning for more Equal opportunities.

The volunteers from ArbeiterKind.de:

  • encourage students from families in which no one or hardly anyone has studied on their way to university,
  • support first-generation students with practical tips and tricks until they graduate and start their careers,
  • tell of their own study experiences,
  • often know about the various advisory services for everyday university life,
  • support you with all questions about your studies,
  • offer their engagement free of charge.

The open meeting for those interested and those seeking advice takes place in Chemnitz on the 1st Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Imagine Pub, Reichenhainer Str. 9, 09126 Chemnitz. The coordinator Daniela Keil can be reached on 0176 47307493 for questions, including how to finance your studies through scholarships.
