Living in Mittweida

When it comes to housing, Mittweida is a jackpot compared to other university towns. There are many offers at attractive prices. The highlight for all those who register their main residence in Mittweida: a welcome package from the city and the university valued at around 100 euros. We have compiled a list of the various housing options and selected contact persons for you here.

Private shared apartments

They are probably the essence of student living: shared flats. If you are open-minded and like the company of other people, then this is definitely the right place for you. There are shared flats everywhere in Mittweida, but most of them are located around the city centre. The shared flats on Rochlitzer Straße, Weberstraße, Poststraße and Markt are some of the most popular among HSMW students. From here you don't need more than five minutes to walk to the university and never more than two minutes to the nearest bakery.

Student shared flats are usually "refilled": If someone moves out, a new flatmate is needed. That's why you can find many offers on websites such as WG-Gesucht or Ebay-Kleinanzeigen. If you are already in Mittweida and perhaps just looking for a new place to live: A simple check on the pillars in the foyer of the cafeteria can also help you find what you are looking for - this is the university notice board. There are also a number of private accommodation providers who can inform you about their offers. These include, for example, the following providers in Mittweida: Zimmer-Mittweida or the shared flats in Schönborn-Dreiwerden.

Single flats

A single flat in the close neighbourhood of the university - in cities like Munich and Hamburg, this is an almost unimaginable luxury during your studies. In Mittweida, this dream is easily attainable for every student. Rental prices start at 150 euros per month.

One example is the apartment complex on Bahnhofstraße/Feldstraße: Here, you are free to develop within your own walls and can close the door behind you after a stressful day at university. But don't worry, there's still company: on nice summer evenings, students from a wide range of faculties and semesters often gather in the courtyard to barbecue together and enjoy the evening. Thanks to the proximity to the university sports hall with beach volleyball court, there is always the opportunity to get active as a group. You can find offers for single flats at WG-Gesucht and Ebay, among other places, as well as from private agents. Of course, the local subscription newspaper, the Freie Presse, also has its own property section.

There are also plenty of other alternatives to help you find a good place to live. For example, the Volksbank Mittweida and the Sparkasse Mittelsachsen broker flats. There are also housing associations and housing cooperatives that have flats available.

The dormitories

In Mittweida, five dormitories belong to the university. All of them are located either directly on campus or very close to it. You never have to walk more than ten minutes to get to your lectures. In the dorms, you can also choose whether you prefer to live in a single flat or in a room in a 2- to 6-person shared flat - there is a suitable living arrangement for every preference.

On the website of the Studentenwerk Freiberg, which is responsible for Mittweida, you can easily apply online for a place in a dormitory in Mittweida. You can also find more information about the different apartment options and prices. Please note: If you would like to apply for a room in one of the Studentenwerk's dormitories, you should do this as soon as possible. The number of rooms is limited. If there are no more rooms available, that's no problem either: the rents on the "free market" are not more expensive.

Out of the neighbourhood? Just stay at home

If you are already in the neighbourhood, of course you can stay at your parents' house for a while. Mittweida can be reached easily via the A4 motorway from Dresden and via the A14 or A72 from Leipzig. Another thing worth noting is the good connection to Chemnitz: the tram line C14 takes about 15 minutes to the main railway station, depending on the connection, and runs every 30 minutes. So you can study in Mittweida and still keep the family atmosphere.

Short-term rentals and hotels in Mittweida

Whether for distance learning, part-time studies or the attendance phase during studies at one of the HSMW partner academies: Sometimes you need a room for a few days or weeks.
