Mental Health First Aid - Offering and receiving first aid

At the University of Applied Sciences Mittweida, we are committed to ensuring that employees and students can receive first aid for mental health problems. For this purpose, we cooperate with the official Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) programme.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a global, innovative programme that was developed based on the successful model of physical first aid. It was created in the year 2000 in Australia and has been scientifically evaluated on a regular basis since then.

MHFA Mental Health First Aid courses provide knowledge about mental health problems in order to destigmatise and promote understanding of mental health issues. The MHFA Mental Health First Aider course was developed based on the successful model for first aid for physical illnesses and trains lay people to become mental health first aiders within 12 hours.

At the University of Applied Sciences Mittweida, you can train as a first aider in this field or seek first aid for mental health problems. All active first aiders for mental health have successfully completed the certified MHFA training and are available to talk to you about health challenges and your mental well-being.

The MHFA team does not make any diagnoses and does not offer any therapy!

The first aiders will listen to you, offer uncomplicated help and can refer you to suitable specialist staff / suitable counselling centres. All counselling services are strictly confidential.
