Female professors program 2030 of the federal and state governments [Professorinnenprogramm 2030]

The fourth program phase of the Female Professors Program 2030 started in 2023 with a term of eight years until 2030 and a total funding volume of 320 million euros. The HSMW applied for the program in the first round of calls for proposals and was awarded the contract.

Success in the first round means that we will receive start-up funding for up to three newly appointed female professors and, if their call is successful, we will be able to use funds for measures to promote gender equality.

One of the goals of the funding program launched by the Joint Science Conference (Gemeinsame Wissenschaftskonferenz - GWK) is to dynamically increase the number of female professors and the proportion of women in top positions at universities towards parity.

Female Professors Program III of the federal and state governments [Professorinnenprogramm III des Bundes und der Länder - PP III]

In 2018/2019, the HSMW successfully took part in the federal and state government's Female Professors Program III. Alongside Leipzig University, it was the only HAW in Saxony to be selected for funding in the first call on the basis of its gender equality concept.

The focus in the third phase of the program was on personnel development and recruitment on the path to professorship. The aim was to increase the number of female professors at universities and to strengthen structural gender equality effects. The latter primarily relates to the recruitment and integration of young female academics.

The HSMW was able to realize one regular professorship and two interim professorships within this funding. The funds released for the regular professorship are used for measures to promote gender equality. In this context, a gender equality officer position was created in 2019 and scholarship programs were made possible. Furthermore, nine female Bachelor students from all disciplines and four female Master's students have received a two-semester research scholarship. Three women are currently completing their doctorates in cooperative procedures as part of this program. The doctoral students meet monthly to exchange ideas, network and expand their skills in the areas of academic work, presentation and publication. Further information on our doctoral scholarship holders and their doctoral topics can be found here.

The HSMW has already been successful twice in the Female Professors Program in the past. Funding from the Female Professors Program III ended in July 2024.

FioKo

Although the advancement of women is regularly called for by politicians and society, women are still underrepresented in science and large parts of the economy. With regard to the reasons for the underrepresentation of women, valuable insights have already been generated in the past.

Nevertheless, our knowledge of the impact of practical measures to promote women is still very limited. It is therefore necessary to take a comprehensive look at the spectrum from school education to professions in the STEM sector in Saxony. To achieve this, two universities (TUD, TUBAF) and two universities of applied sciences (University of Applied Sciences Mittweida, Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences) are working together in this project.

At the Mittweida site, the influences of the different subject cultures at universities are being investigated in order to derive recommendations for action that can be used to break up exclusionary structures. The focus here is particularly on the engineering sciences, which have a particularly low proportion of women.

NextGen

NextGen is a qualification program that supports scientists on the academic career path to a professorship at universities of applied sciences. The BMBF project started on 01.04.2021 with a funding volume of 5.2 million euros and runs until 31.03.2027.
