Application

For all study programs (majors), application to Mittweida University of Applied Sciences is possible directly through the HSMW application portal within the application deadlines.

No matter which course of study you choose, you will need some documents for the application. These must be scanned and then uploaded exclusively in the HSMW application portal.

Most majors do not require a selection process for admission. Thus, a timely and complete application is enough to secure you a place at the University, regardless of the results of your secondary school exams, final grade point average, or the number of people applying. However, there are some “admission-restricted” study programs at Mittweida, which require an additional selection process.

If you have registered in the applicant portal but have not received an e-mail from us to activate your account, for example, you are welcome to contact our applicant service. We will also be happy to help you with any other problems!

This is not possible with open-admission programs, because you are guaranteed a place on the program as long as you apply on time and in full. You should therefore consider beforehand which degree program is the right one for you. Our student advisors will be happy to help you decide. If you decide on a restricted-admission program, you have the option of specifying a second choice in case you do not get a place on the restricted-admission program.

Yes, if you have already submitted your online application, you can use the "Document upload" function in the application portal. As long as you have not yet submitted the application, you can of course make other corrections. However, you should pay attention to the deadlines. You can submit missing documents until July 20 (for the winter semester) or January 20 (for the summer semester) at the latest.

Sometimes it can happen that deadlines are extended. Therefore, it is important to always keep an eye on the application instructions. There you will find current information if necessary.

If you make a mistake in your application, there are several ways to correct it. Until the application is submitted digitally, you can log back into the application portal at any time and edit or correct the application. In the case of open-admission programs, it is no longer possible to correct your information after you have submitted your application. If you still notice an error, it is best to send an e-mail to our application service.

The vast majority of Bachelor's programs at Mittweida University of Applied Sciences are open-admission programs, which means that there is no NC. The only condition for admission-free study programs is the complete and punctual application with a valid degree certificate.

For our restricted-admission programs (e.g. Media Management or Social Work), a selection process takes place in which we also look at other qualifications such as internships or some school grades - so there is no NC in the classic sense. More detailed information on the selection process can be found in the application instructions.

There are two scenarios for a master's application:

  1. You are already studying at Mittweida University of Applied Sciences in the Bachelor or Diploma and now want to do the advanced Master. In this case you log in to the campus portal with your university login. Here you will find the button "Studienbewerbung". Here you can apply for your Master's degree.

  2. You have studied at another university and would now like to do your Master's degree at Mittweida University of Applied Sciences. In this case, use the Apply now button above, create a user account in our campus portal and then apply via the portal.

There are two application periods: The application period for the winter semester starts on April 15 and ends regularly on July 15. Missing documents can be submitted for all degree programs until July 20.

The application period for the summer semester always starts on October 15 and ends on January 15. Missing documents can be submitted until January 20.

You always apply in the year in which you would like to begin your studies, or in the application phase before the desired start of your studies. But please note: Almost all of our study programs start in the winter semester. Only the Bachelor's program in Social Work and a few Master's programs start in the summer semester.

Sometimes it can happen that deadlines are extended. Therefore, it is important to always keep an eye on the application instructions. There you will find current information if necessary.

A "waiting semester" is the time after school until the start of your studies. It is important that you were not enrolled at any university during this time. This time would not be counted. It doesn't matter what else you did during this time (au pair, work, internships, etc.).

For the application we need some documents. Information on this can be found in the application instructions. Additional documents may be required for admission-restricted courses of study. The information can also be found under the link.
